Homeopathy for Allergies

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Here are a few brief excerpts from an article Homeopathy for Allergies: Nothing to Sneeze At

The word “allergy” did not even exist a century ago, and yet, respiratory allergies today are the 5th leading chronic disease in the U.S. and are the 3rd most common chronic disease among children under 18 years old. [1] It has been estimated that one in seven Americans had a respiratory allergy in 1950, but one in four have one now….

Although homeopaths have a history of being at the forefront of medical research and discovery, it is particularly appropriate and even predictable that they would lead the way in the field of allergy. Because the primary principle of modern allergy treatment derives from the homeopathic principle of “treating like with like,” the spirit of homeopathy has lived on, despite the tendency of orthodox physicians to ignore it….

What this research suggests is that homeopathic medicines provide an often effective and extremely safe means of treatment for patients with respiratory allergies. Further, due to the widely recognized safety of homeopathic medicines, it makes sense to consider safe methods before resorting to more risky treatments….

Weathering the weather: Homeopathic Medicine and Global Warming

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

As the effects of Global Warming become apparent my patients are already suffering from what seems the extreme weather changes we have here in California. Each day is changing from summer to winter as we move into fall. One day will be 60′s and the next 90′s in temperature. See http://www.climateprotect.org/ for supporting a solution to Global Warming.

But the effects of this radical weather shifting in patient needs can be supported by an over the counter Homeopathic remedy. Oscillococcynum is a fabulous cold/flu remedy that always works when used immediately at the first onset of symptoms. By this I mean, achy muscles, headache, low energy, stuffy feeling in the head, brainfog, etc. If you catch it early enough you will stop the progression of the symptoms and not have to go thru the entire sickness. You can find access to Oscillococcynum at Amazon.com

Summer Colds, Flu, Allergies Lingering

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

This summer heatwave brought on a flurry of the above. The outbreaks were violent, ranging from extreme laryngitis, paroxysms of coughing, sinusitis, ear infections, Meniere’s symptoms, projectile vomiting and persistant diarrhea accompanied by intermittent fever. Very uncomfortable. My usual arsenal of Chinese herbs, Occilococinum, Air Borne, Ecchinacea, Coloidal Silver, golden Seal, Olive oil extract, Sambucol etc. found a new companion that I wanted to share with you.

From Switzerland, GeloMyrtol, an herbal proprietary blend was a new discovery for me. It kept me free of the intensity of all these symptoms while treating the patients who came to me.

I find it a great new companion, and take it with the others depending on which symptoms are dominant and where I am in the process of the sickness.

Ever grateful for the pulse/tongue diagnosis of Chinese Medicine and the odd modalities of Homeopathic Medicine which allows me to have a great heads up to what is coming down the road for my patients. I am most often able to turn the path of oncoming misery back to health using this group of products.

Both Chinese Medicine and Homeopathy use different herbs/ingredients for the unique distinctions of all the various stages of viral/bacterial upper respiratory tract infections. I am grateful for this, as I am able to treat with a high degree of specificity. I like that.

GeloMyrtol supports any stage of all of these symptoms to arrest the process in its tracks. I highly recommend it for your medicine chest.

Homeopathic Medicine- Fabulous Choice!

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

I studied homeopathic medicine for several years because it was the medicine that worked the best for me personally. I love it because there are absolutely no side effects whatsoever, it is gentle, subtle in its effect, and when the accurate remedy and potency are prescribed, it works miraculously.

I had an early experience with a female homeopath from India who was an MD that impressed me greatly and inspired my subsequent study. She was able to eliminate long term deep disease patterns that had begun in childhood. This was something no other style of medicine addressed. Homeopathy is able to “unwind” a disease pattern out of the body forever by taking you back thru time and eliminating the pattern entirely.

Simple symptoms like earache, headache, nausea, bladder infection, muscle strain, joint aches, dizziness, etc are easily alleviated with a single dose of the accurately prescribed homeopathic remedy. This is symptomatic use of the remedies.

The finding of a “Constitutional” remedy which will support the individual person, all persons being unique, is a fascinating process. The modalities used to diagnose are unusual. I specifically remember seeing “dizzy when the wind hits the left cheek”. The specificity and unusualness of the modalities allows this medicine to search deep into the uniqueness of each individual for an appropriate remedy to support that particular system.

These are the wonderful reasons to choose homeopathy over any other medicine. It is unique in it`s view of the health system, clean in it`s delivery of the medicine, accessible to everyone over the counter, and effective when used intelligently.

Give homeopathic medicine a try, you will enjoy it!

Human Papiloma Virus

Friday, April 13th, 2007

We recently are inundated with ads on TV for a new vaccine against HPV, and a new test for it which women are being urged to get at the same time that they get their pap smears.

I sat with a 52 yr. old woman patient who died recently from cervical cancer caused by HPV. It was an excruciatingly painful death for her. She was not accurately diagnosed until she was stage 4 cancer with a tumor that had grown from her cervix, up her spine, and was in her brain at the time of diagnosis. She had haunted her gynecologists, switching them several times per year because none of them was finding the reason for her intense lower abdomen pain. She had several pap smears and blood tests a year up until they finally did an MRI which found the tumor. At her death, you could visibly see the tumor that had overcome her entire body. She was literally skin, bones, and tumor. Mostly tumor, growing down her arms and legs and filling her abdominal cavity. It seemed this picture is what they should be showing on the TV ads rather than a group of giggling girls saying “I didn`t know you could get cancer from a virus!”

Just after her passing, all these ads came out. Her nurses had told me that in the 50`s is the age that the virus matures and is diagnosable as cancer. It seems that the generation which fought for sexual freedom, my generation, is falling from this virus. Enough of them for there to arise a vaccine and a new test and the expensive ad campaigns to go with them. The pap smear was previously thought to be the marker for finding if there was a problem with this virus and any cancer cells growing. Now it is known that it is not enough.

I worry about this new generation of women who will take this vaccine thinking they are “home free” and able to maintain sexual freedom. I worry that this vaccine has not been tested long enough to know what side effects or mutations it may create.

My generation thought we were free by using birth control, the side effects from which we are still suffering and discovering. Sex now is not ever free. There is always a great risk and price. Human Papiloma is one of the viruses you can contract with a condom on. Herpes is another. “Safe sex” is not really safe. There are female condoms, but no one wears them. And truth be told, HPV can be contracted orally, creating throat cancer. And we all know the many scary diseases contractible without a condom. That is one issue….

Another “invisible” issue is that nothing is being said about men having HPV, being tested for it, and the possible relationship to the great numbers of prostate and testicular cancer breaking out for men in their 50`s. It seems obvious to me that if 70% of cervical cancer is caused by HPV, then what about prostate and testicular cancer? Why is no one making this relationship? Why are men not being tested and offered a vaccine as well?

But, the most important issue to me about this is finding a NATURAL solution. So far I have found that there is a test to discover which of 3 known ways do you, as a woman, download estrogen. Apparently only one of these ways is susceptible to cancer. There are also 4 known strains of HPV, only one of which makes cancer. It seems that you can test for the HPV to see if you have the strain that makes cancer. If not, test for the estrogen downloading type and if you find that you do not have the kind of downloading cycle that creates cancer there is possibly no reason to get the vaccine. And, in which case there is great reason to resist the legislation that prepubescent girls be enforced to take the vaccine before it has been tested long enough to see the side effects and the girls have been tested to see if they are vulverable to the disease based upon their estrogen downloading.

I am still in search of the way to alleviate the virus from the body. At the moment exploring Homeopathic solutions. Also, it seems to me, having a way to alleviate it from a prospective partner is important as well. Apparently 75% of sexually active adults carry this virus. It would be very nice to have a solution for protecting ourselves.

I am actively in pursuit of the answers to how we all can protect ourselves from such a horribly painful out come of one of the most delightful of God’s given pleasures.

How do I know which natural medicine to use? Homeopathy/Acupuncture/ Naturopathy

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Deciding which modality of natural treatment to use for what ailments is an art form which you will evolve over time and use of all the forms. Best way to begin is, of course, to have professional support while you develop your knowledge and skill at discerning the distinctions of each.

The medicines distinguish themselves by the ways they treat. Homeopathic medicine is distinct in that it is a potentized energetic medicine that works very effectively in subtle, no side effects fashion. Acupuncture works energetically in the acupuncture treatment, and combines herbal support that is extremely and distinctively nutritive. Naturopathy often includes both Homeopathy and Acupuncture as well as Western natural medicines, supplements and herbs.

For instance when we are just getting a “common cold” there are many different beginning scenarios. First stage can be slight fever with achy muscles, or slight fever with scratchy sore throat, or slight fever with headache. From a long experience, I have found that fever with achy muscles is the perfect beginning to indicate the use of the homeopathic Osccilococcynum. For the fever with a scratchy throat the best first stage treatment is a chinese herb formula, Yin Qiao. For the first stage slight fever with headache and chinese formula Ma Huang is the best.

All of these conditions will not respond to these first stage treatments if they have progressed too long, you must catch them at the very first sign of the symptoms. Sometimes when I have waited until just 4 hrs after noticing the first symptom (perhaps I am out and away from my pharmacy) it is too late for these first stage treatments to work. Then they would graduate to stronger treatments, different chinese formula`s and homeopathics.

Sometimes the healthfood store solutions work just fine. I like Airborne as an all over, easy to use and access, beginning for fending off a cold. It often works. Some people prefer EmergenC, or Echinacea and Goldenseal separate or together. These would all be Naturopathic treatment choices.

It is up to you to try all of these choices, experience which ones work the best, fastest, and easiest on you because we are all different and respond differently at different times in our lives. You will, after some experience develop an ability to know what herbs and homeopathics to have at home in your pharmacy, which ones to take with you when you travel, which ones to leave in your car, purse, etc. so they are accessible quickly.

All of us have the ability to grow this talent, and to treat ourselves for most of the simple sicknesses we develop. We do need professional help to begin our education of the available options, and to diagnose correctly and refer us to the appropriate other professionals who we will need to help us. It is a wonderful educational process, takes time, builds new relationships, and grows yourself as you go. You can create an ever evolving, informed ability to choose which professional to go to for guidance as well as which medicine to use for the easiest of self treatments. It can be a fun and easy exploration that will be greatly rewarding.
