I have been writing a second book of the challenge to maintain health in the USA. Both physically and socially there are continuous obstacles to pursuing a pristinely healthy lifestyle.

I ran into a great explanation of how our food is so nutrition deprived and contaminated with toxic chemical pollution unless certified organic. You can read it at:

It is a concise explanation of something that has been going on our entire lives. To expand on the idea that the toxic waste products from wartime are placed into our food more fully, there is a great book Twinkie, Deconstructed: My Journey to Discover How the Ingredients Found in Processed Foods Are Grown, Mined (Yes, Mined), and Manipulated into What America Eats which exposes the origin of many of the mysterious ingredients found in our manufactured foods. Truth be told, we were volunteered to be the toxic waste containers for the toxic waste from war time which could not legally be disposed of in the oceans or ground. We were volunteered without our knowledge or permission. The sophistication of this practice has caused mass marketing to convince the naive public that these ingredients are “good for you”, necessary, desirable, irressistable. The wide profit margin for the marketer has perpetuated the practice as there is a lot of money to be made from it.

Almost all the products marketed on television are created from toxic petrochemical synthesis.

Air Filters- My Picks

In choosing the air filter that I will live with, one that will give me clean, healthy air in my home, even during a “State of Emergency”, I discovered several things.  I tried a Hepa filter that I ran out and bought at Home Depot.  It did nothing to abate the symptoms I was experiencing from the air of the CA fires.  I returned it. 

I had, in the past, tried several brands of non-functional air filters from Brookstone and other commercially advertized stores.

I ended up purchasing a Nikken air filter for it’s many qualities of creating fresh air, it’s quietness, it’s size, and the convenience of changing the filter every 5 years. You can order this filter, like I did from deb@doorstowellness.com.  Deb makes ordering and delivery easy, fast, and super convenient. 

Then I decided to support that air filter with another filtering concept that I had owned previously. This product claims the best smoke, mold, dander, etc. elimination in the business.  It uses Ozone to immobilize the particles and cause them to fall to the ground.  There has been some criticism about the use of ozone, which in high doses can cause unhealthy effects.  I will be trying this filter for a trial period and will report back to you about the results.

In the meantime, the Nikken air filter from deb@doorstowellness.com is my top choice.

Breathing the California Fires

Today it is 97 degrees, the fires have been burning for several days, and we have all filled our lungs with the smoke until it is something we can feel. I waken each morning with a sore throat, take my Air Armor, and wait to feel more normal

Today the normal didn’t come. I am very aware of a respiratory tract sensitivity, a vague rawness and some chest constriction. I found myself telling my elderly mother to seriously consider leaving town until the smoke cleared, and in attempting to convince her to do so, realized we all were having our health compromised with the almost invisible experience of breathing this smoke.

I feel the elderly and children are particularly vulnerable to the damages that breathing the smoke will create. They will likely be more susceptible to the winter colds/flus, and pneumonia. And I do feel that the damage created by this time of breathing the smoke will have a longterm effect on how we experience our transitions at the end of our lives.

At the moment no one is speaking of it. It is an obvious problem, our wise choice would be to leave town until the smoke literally clears. In the event that that is not possible, all the fortification of the Upper Respiratory Tract Infection products and Immune System boosters is a good idea. Stay indoors as much as possible. Limit aerobic exercise unless done in an environment with filtered air. Connect to loved ones and discuss the good that comes with these fires. I noticed the gorgeous sunsets and the mutual loving concern of relations and friends. Lending a hand when needed (the Red Cross is one place) to contribute to our community.

Making the wise, heartfelt choices during this time will get us all thru it together. We can turn it all into a cup 1/2 full situation. May you experience the best!
